Pycnogenol — The Pine Bark Antioxidant
Pycnogenol is a patented extract from French maritime pine bark, rich in proanthocyanidins. It acts as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, supporting endothelial function, cardiovascular health, and skin elasticity, which are critical components of healthy aging.
Mechanism of Action
Pycnogenol primarily functions by scavenging reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, thereby reducing oxidative stress. It stimulates endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), leading to increased nitric oxide (NO) production and improved vasodilation. Additionally, it inhibits the activation of NF-κB, a master regulator of inflammation, reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and adhesion molecules.
